Alternatives to Family Violence Everyone in a family deserves to be safe and respected. Our domestic violence programs stop violence at home and help people have healthier relationships. We understand that it's difficult to make changes alone. Our group programs help people discover the relationship skills they already have and learn new ways of thinking about how to be a partner and parent. Alternatives to Family Violence At Family Service, we work with the entire family to stop domestic violence. Families can come to counseling together, but meet separately with counselors to learn: - Development of a violence avoidance/safety plan
- Education about the cycle of violence plus power and control dynamics
- Use time-outs to manage anger
- Assertiveness training
- Skills in self-esteem, self-responsibility, stress management and social communication
- Learn about addictive relationships, co-dependency and drug and alcohol abuse.
