On Thanksgiving Day in 1835, visionary community leaders formed today’s Family Service to support families who were settling in our community. That Family Service continues to thrive and strengthen families 175 years later is an extraordinary testament to the power of individuals to make a difference – not just in their lifetime, but for generations to come. Founding members Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Fletcher, Mr. and Mrs. James Ray, and Mr. and Mrs. James Blake could not have imagined the hundreds of thousands of families that would reap the benefit of their efforts. As we celebrate our 175th anniversary in 2010, we celebrate all of the families that have been strengthened and all those who have made it possible.

We are very grateful to the board members, supporters, staff and volunteers whose passion for our mission has driven this organization forward for more than six generations. Furthermore, we owe our thanks and respect to the individuals and families we serve, whose determination to rise above difficult circumstances motivates us each and every day. It is their courage that inspires our staff to continue striving toward our vision of a community of healthy, loving, and capable families.

Thanks to our community’s commitment to families, we were able in 2009 to provide nearly 8,000 individuals with counseling and guidance to strengthen themselves and their relationships, end the cycle of domestic violence, prepare for the later stages of life, and move toward self-sufficiency. With your help, we’ll continue to keep our founders’ vision alive and families together for generations to come.
